History

Freshwater Plantation was part of World War 2 history as was Aore Island and Espiritu Santo itself. A R&R facility was established on Aore and the plantation supplied water by pipeline to the facility and out to ships berthed at Black Wharf.

The peaceful existence of the locals and French planters were abruptly altered in 1942 when the Americans invaded en force to protect the island from the advance of the Japanese, now as close as the Solomon islands. The archipelego saw an 'invasion' of troops, equipment and infrastraucture development like nothing that had happened before.
