Freshwater Plantation owners Maria and Klaas came to Vanuatu in 2013 and started renovating a derelict coffee and cocoa plantation into an agri tourism attraction which opened to the public in 2017. Their investment has included the preservation and enhancement of the Aore Island Bat Cave. The property covers over 100 hectare (300 acres); with varied landscape ranging from tended botanical gardens and rolling green lawns by the plantation house to cultivated coconuts and cocoa groves along with vast areas of regrowth coffee and rainforest stretching into the middle of the island.

Today, Freshwater employs upwards of 20 people engaged in agriculture, hospitality and agri tourism interpretation. Guests are welcomed daily for various tlantation tours, arriving either from Aore Island (with a taxi pickup service) or from Santo by ferry boat just a short trip from Luganville.
